What's Happening in London - Clapham, England…

Work starts on Clapham Park regeneration

An ambitious project that will see a district of Clapham given a comprehensive revival makeover has now officially started, with building work at the site underway.

This scheme will give Clapham Park a new lease of life and cost a total of £1.2 billion to complete. The developers behind it are Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH) and Countryside Partnerships, with representatives from both firms meeting up with local councillors this month to mark the start of the project. The area in question is situated close to Atkins Road.

Phase one of the work will involve the construction of 520 homes, of which 282 will be affordable properties. The remainder will consist of 115 rental homes and 123 for private purchase. Brochure printing from Clapham shops may be useful to the developers when the homes are finished, to help show them off to potential buyers and tenants.

The project is divided into several phases and will eventually see 2,482 new homes built at Clapham Park. Alongside these will be spaces for retail and commercial use, a couple of public parks, a market square and community centre.

Guy Burnett from MTVH told London News Online that:

“This marks a significant step forward in the exciting large-scale regeneration of Clapham Park.”

Phase one of this project is currently scheduled to be finished by the end of next year.
