Theatre in Clapham to put shows online

A theatre in Clapham is responding to the coronavirus lockdown by developing an online platform so that performers can still get their work out to the public.

The Omnibus Theatre will be using this platform to allow one artist per week to showcase a piece of work that is suitable for home viewing. This can range from live shows to podcasts and YouTube videos, with the first show that has been staged using the platform being called ‘Dem Times’. This is a mix of comedy and drama that was created by Our Day.

In addition to the weekly shows broadcast by the theatre, this new online platform will also be used for the scratch programme run by the Omnibus called Engine Room. This is set to broadcast on the final Tuesday of every month and will see dramatists show off new plays that are works in progress.

In normal times, theatres such as this one have the option of offering giveaway promotional products at the opening of new shows to help promote them, but have to find alternatives until the lockdown ends.

The Omnibus is also launching a new hub which is aimed at younger people. This will provide downloadable activity packs that can be used to explore creativity during the crisis and work on developing acting talents.
