What's Happening in London - Clapham, England…

Ski success for Clapham youngster

A nine-year-old girl from Clapham is celebrating after she won a bronze medal at the GB Alpine Championships held earlier this month.

Ophelia Korpanec-Davies was competing in the slalom GB Alpine Minis Race for under-10s at the championships and she completed the course in a time of 33.58 seconds despite the weather conditions being less than ideal. This was good enough to secure third spot, a place on the winners’ podium and a medal for the Clapham prodigy, who is a member of a club called Mountain Masters that is based in the district.

These championships were held in Tignes, in the French Alps, and the part of the event that is for younger athletes took place between 8th and 12th April. Over 300 youngsters from all over the world competed in different age groupings and across 12 disciplines.

Friends and family of those taking part in competitive sports events like this often use banner printing services so they can show support. Speaking to SW Londoner, Ophelia stated:

“Skiing is just really fun and racing means you get a chance to enjoy it. It feels really good and makes me happy to be one of the people racing here. When I found out I was on the podium it made me really happy.”

Simon Davies, her father, added that he was incredibly proud of her.
