Brand new courts for padel could be constructed on the top of a building just outside Clapham, if the local council decides to give the idea the green light.
This plan would see the courts built at Southside Shopping Centre, very close to Clapham. The idea is to use the multi-storey car park roof as the site for them and people living within the district have indicated that they are on board with the plan. Now the final decision on whether to go forward or not lies with Wandsworth Council.
Padel is a sport played on courts that are around a third smaller than a standard tennis court. It is a doubles game that is played with racquets and the courts used for it are enclosed.
If the council agrees to let the courts be built on the roof, Padel Social Club would be in charge of them. There would be a total of six courts that are covered over, as well as seats, showers, toilets, treatment and changing facilities. Other amenities included within the Plans are a shop and a gymnasium.
The club would be able to use brochure printing from shops in Clapham if it wanted to showcase all of the facilities that are on offer.
A date for the council to announce its decision is still to be confirmed.
