New homes planned for Clapham Park

Housing provider Metropolitan has begun the process of consultation over its proposal to add a further 900 houses to the regeneration scheme it is developing at Clapham Park Estate.

Consultation documents have now been made public and show that Metropolitan is hoping to submit a brand new planning application next year, connected with this scheme. If it is given the green light, it would mean that the scheme would comprise approximately 3,350 housing units instead of the 2,443 that were previously planned.

This Clapham regeneration project will be delivered by the local council alongside Metropolitan and was saved from cancellation by a Lloyds Bank and Barclays refinancing deal worth £117 million, after a period of delays due to financial difficulties.

As originally planned, the scheme would have seen the refurbishment of 975 houses at the site, alongside the construction of 2,480 new ones – with 960 of these being affordable housing options. Residents will now be consulted about the proposed increase in the amount of new housing built.

According to Inside Housing, the documents state that:

“At a time of chronic housing shortage we can deliver more affordable new homes than originally envisaged, whilst retaining the amount of green.”

Should the firm get the go ahead to build the new housing, they may choose to use places that offer catalogue printing to help showcase the finished properties.
