What's Happening in London - Clapham, England…

Historic Clapham building to be converted

One of the most historic buildings in the whole of Clapham is set to undergo a residential conversion, with a building contractor now having been appointed to handle the project.

Audiology House is in Nightingale Lane, Clapham, and is believed to have once been the home of George Jennings, an inventor who lived in the Victorian era. In more recent times, the building has been used for the manufacturing of audio equipment, but it is now set to be converted back into homes and Red Construction Group will be taking on this job.

It will involve converting the existing building, as well as adding an extension to it, and is expected to cost £8.1m to complete. Joseph Edmund Ltd is the developer overseeing the scheme and when it is finished it will consist of 19 flats. Eight of these will be within the main building, with the remaining 11 being created out of the factory space behind it.

Developers often turn to places that can supply brochure printing when they need to show off new houses and flats. Speaking to The Construction Index, Graham Sturge from Red Construction Group said:

“Audiology House is such a unique project steeped in history, and something that we were pleased to secure as part of our diverse residential portfolio.”

The project is due to be completed by Spring 2021.
