Clapham to host first Yam Carnival in UK
While the nightlife of London has been on hold for over a year now, revellers can start to rev up their entertainment engines with the news that the Yam Carnival is coming to Clapham.
The same people who put together Afronation are behind this event, which is a unique festival that looks to celebrate all the different aspects of Black culture. This year will be the first time it has been held in the UK, something that was originally supposed to happen last summer, only for the Covid-19 pandemic to put paid to it.
The plans are for it to go ahead this year though, with Clapham Common serving as the venue. The organisers have already confirmed some of the headline names for the festival, including Davido, the Nigerian-American singer behind the song ‘Fem’.
Another artist who is set to perform is the son of legendary singer Fela Kuti – Femi Kuti. He will be joined by ‘Tomboy’ singer Princess Nokia, local rappers NSG and Kehlani. Those who attend are being promised a stunning blend of R&B, hip hop, dancehall, and afrobeat on the bill.
