What's Happening in London - Clapham, England…

Clapham to get hundreds of new houses

Clapham is set to benefit from the construction of hundreds of brand-new houses, as the next stage in an ambitious regeneration project takes shape.

The redevelopment of Clapham Park is a multi-stage project that is expected to cost £1.2 billion. The new housing that has been announced for the site will be the third stage. It is happening as the result of a partnership between Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH), which is a housing association, and the Vistry Group.

The land needed was secured from Metropolitan Housing Trust and 323 homes are to be built on it. 77% of them are due to be affordable properties, which was a condition of the grant funding provided by the Greater London Authority (GLA).

When new homes in Clapham are ready for occupation, the developers sometimes use brochure printing from local shops to show them off to potential buyers.

Guy Burnett from MTVH commented:
“This agreement represents yet another huge investment in our flagship regeneration scheme, and reaffirms our commitment to providing the high quality, affordable homes, across a range of tenures, which the local community needs.”

The total scale of the Clapham Park project is 36 hectares and it will lead to the construction of over 4,000 houses.

Next year is when the initial affordable homes in this stage are expected to be ready.
