What's Happening in London - Clapham, England…

Clapham regeneration project to enter phase two

A major project to redevelop a housing estate in Clapham is set to enter its second phase soon and the work will be carried out by the same firm responsible for phase one.

Peabody is the housing developer behind the ambitious regeneration of St John’s Hill Estate in Clapham and it has made the decision to continue with building firm John Sisk and Son for the second part. The first phase of the project saw the existing houses on the estate knocked down and 153 new ones built there, which Sisk completed three years ago.

Now the firm has been handed the contract for the next part of the project, which is worth £87 million in total. The second phase will see a further 198 houses built on the estate, which dates back to the 1930s, in addition to the construction of a community centre. Brochure printing services in Clapham can be used to showcase completed projects in the community.

The new houses are set to include full solar panelling throughout and district heating system, as part of a commitment by the local council to achieve carbon neutral status within the next 10 years.

Work on phase two of the development, which Hawkins/Brown architects’ designed, is set to start later in the year. The completion is scheduled for 2022.
