What's Happening in London - Clapham, England…

Clapham pub undergoes romantic name change

While pubs often undergo changes of name, there cannot be many that have been given a new moniker inspired by a real-life love story – but that is what has happened to one in Clapham.

The Rose & Crown is a popular venue and it is where Rory Chisolm first met Rose Maclachlan. In 2019, the pair were working for AON, a company that offers financial services, and were at the pub for a works night out. After Rory spilled his drink on Rose, they started talking and it was the beginning of a relationship that continues to this day.

Now the pub has been rechristened the Rose & Rory in tribute to them. The unique idea came about as a result of a campaign called Long Live the Local, which is intended to get people visiting local pubs following the pandemic and is being supported by fashion model Jodie Kidd.

Pubs sometimes use printing services based nearby to supply their menus and other essential items.

Kidd met with the pair this month to promote the campaign and celebrate the name change, and 28-year-old Rose told London News Online:

“The Rose & Crown already had a special place in our hearts but this is a story for the books – I hope we can keep the sign afterwards.”

She added that the campaign showed the value of local pubs.
