What's Happening in London - Clapham, England…

Clapham to host Oktoberfest event

Clapham is set to play host to its own authentic version of Bavarian beet festival, Oktoberfest next month. The festival, which is usually associated with Bavaria, dirndl skirts and lederhosen, will appeal those who wish to sample the German celebration without having to jet off abroad.

The Grand Theatre, which has seating for 1,200 people, is set to stand in for a beer hall in Bavaria – although anyone worried about braving the British autumn chill dressed in little shorts will be relieved to learn that lederhosen are optional. In every other respect however, this Clapham Oktoberfest will be completely authentic.

There will be food stalls that serve traditional German cuisine, such as sauerkraut and grilled bratwurst, while there will also be a wide selection of beers from Germany. These will include Lowenbrau, which is considered essential to the festival in that country.

Any non-drinkers who fancy attending will find soft drinks on offer, with the entire four days being soundtracked by live oompah music. Speaking to Get West London, the manager of the event, Rachel Pedreschi, stated that:

“This will be an absolutely incredible night out in London. There is something so special and traditional about an Oktoberfest celebration that you just can’t deny.”

It will take place on four separate nights during October and events of this kind are frequently promoted in the local area through the use of services such as flyer printing.
