Clapham Common events get go ahead
There are better times ahead for residents of Clapham who are currently craving outdoor entertainment, with the news that the local council has approved plans for a series of events.
The planning committee for Lambeth Council gave the green light to the application that was submitted by the authority’s events service, EventLambeth, for a number of music festivals and activities. The venue for most of these is set to be Clapham Common, although some of those that are being planned for the summer and autumn of 2020 could yet fall victim to coronavirus-related cancellations.
Some have already been scrapped because of the pandemic and those organising any due to take place before the end of this year will have to abide by conditions requiring them to outline the steps they will take to make sure people attending are kept safe.
At the moment, eight events and activities are scheduled to go ahead on Clapham Common between now and the end of 2020, including the Festival Republic that incorporates the Yam Carnival and SW4 music festivals planned for August and September. Poster printing services that use bespoke graphic design from local shops are sometimes used to promote music festivals.
Other events that have received the go ahead and are still planned include the annual Cancer Research fundraising run, Race for Life in October.
