Clapham cancer survivor takes up coaching role
A man who lives in Clapham and who recovered from a life-threatening illness is planning to make a radical change, giving up a well-paid job so that he can launch a football coaching programme for children.
Ciaran Donlon is aged 39 and lives not far from Clapham Common. For years he had a lucrative and high pressure career as a digital advertising boss, but now he has given all of that up and is planning to start up a programme of football coaching aimed at local youngsters.
What changed everything for Donlon was a cancer diagnosis in 2019. He had to go through a tough treatment schedule of chemotherapy and surgery. The experience made him question his life and he decided a new career was needed.
Speaking to London News Online, he stated that he had undergone this moment of realisation when a friend called him as he waited for a chemotherapy session.
He went on to add that:
After recovering he began to get the qualifications needed to coach football, and he is now set to launch his StarFootballers programme. Poster printing from Clapham shops can help with the promoting of local services like this.
The programme begins next month at Brockwell Park.
