Awards win for account manager from Clapham

A woman from Clapham who works as an account manager and is a survivor of cancer has won a prize from one of the UK’s leading charities for her voluntary work.

Victoria Botting lives on Aristotle Road in Clapham and has been a volunteer for the charity Anthony Nolan for the past 10 years. This organisation helps people suffering from blood cancer to find suitable stem cell donors, as well as producing research into the issue. Victoria, who is 27 years old, was given the Simon Dyson Award for Volunteer of the Year during the annual Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards held recently.

She began volunteering for the charity while still a student, through its Cardiff Marrow group, and is now chairperson of the committee for the Marrow Alumni. This involves meeting staff from places such as the Bank of England so she can inform them about its work and the urgent need for young stem cell donors.

Charities often promote themselves using items like promotional pens that are created by print shops all over the country.

As a fundraiser, Victoria also recently raised £665 by doing 310,000 steps per month. She stated that she was delighted but surprised to be given the award and that she felt flattered to have been nominated and chosen – even if personal recognition was not her goal.
