The South West city of Bath hosted stage six of this year’s Tour of Britain cycling race, which took place on Friday, 12th September.
Crowds gathered to catch a glimpse of British cycling superstars Mark Cavendish and Sir Bradley Wiggins who, along with a many other competitors, set off from the city’s Royal Avenue before riding around some of Bath’s most historic and iconic sites.
Bath is set to benefit from the race in a number of ways, as thousands of people from all over the country flocked to the city equipped with promotional items that had been produced through professional banner printing, showing their support for the athletes.
The popularity of cycling in the country has been boosted, with many high profile events taking place in the UK over the past year and home-grown talents faring well. These events include both the Commonwealth Games and perhaps the most famous cycling race of all, the Tour de France, which held several stages of its race on British soil.
Bath’s local people were more than thrilled to be able to watch the event live, with children from Bath and North East Somerset being chosen to lead the cycle race as it passed through the city.
The event has seen strong support in the city centre as the race got underway.
