Thousands turn out for Bath run

Hundreds of professional runners from clubs across the world took part in the Bath Half Marathon last weekend.

With runners from British clubs taking part too, as well as thousands of people raising cash for charity, it was a great event through the streets of the city. It was also a record year for spectators – despite the rain of the winter continuing to fall.

Congratulating everyone involved, organiser Andrew Taylor said:

“We’ve had some good times here, particularly among the British athletes, and I’m told there are record crowds out around the course, which is amazing given the weather – well done Bath.”

Amid a great deal of poster printing and banner printing, the runners sprinted, jogged and staggered along the 13.1 mile route. Starting and finishing on the famous Great Pulteney Street, the runners also crossed the River Avon twice.

In the professional arena, taking this year's men's title was Kenyan Nicholas Kirui, completing the course in a time of 63 minutes and 13 seconds. The women's title was won by fellow Kenyan Perendis Lekapana, in 70 minutes and 53 seconds.

Though the day really belonged to those fun and charity runners, their times were a little longer, with most completing the course after about two and a half hours.

The lead charity for this year's event was CoppaFeel, raising cash for breast cancer, though over 90 charities saw a total of over £2 million raised for them last year.
