Somerset children celebrate literature

Children in Somerset recently had the chance to celebrate the written word as part of National Children’s Book Week.

Children across the Somerset Region recently had the chance to celebrate their favourite Books and authors as a variety of activities were hosted around the county to celebrate National Children’s Book Week. National Poetry Day was also celebrated as part of this.

Pupils from Christ Church First School got well and truly into the literary swing of things as they embraced a fancy dress day that saw them dressing as their favourite characters from Books; with a Smurf, Noddy and even Where’s Wally turning up to the event. Students studying in year six at Oakfield Academy in Frome attended a book signing by Anthony Horowitz, a popular children’s author, as part of the Bath Children’s Literature Festival.

The fact that local children got so involved in celebrating storytelling and the printed word as part of National Children’s Book Week shows that there is still a real appetite for hard Copies of Books, and a real demand for the production of Books using digital or full colour printing.

Bath Children’s Literature Festival runs each year from the end of September to the beginning of October and is due to return next year. The main literature festival in Bath is set to be held in March 2013. Both festivals look set to spark the imagination of local Somerset residents and tourists alike. More information can be found on the official festival websites.
