Primark could be set to revitalise Baths retail scene

Speculation over a new Primark store is building in Bath after it was announced that the city’s long-standing branch of British Home Stores (BHS) is set to close in January.

The rumours are well grounded, as a number of former BHS outlets have been turned into Primark stores in other areas. In 2010 alone, 10 were reborn under the Irish fashion brand as part of the group's large-scale expansion plan.

Alan Brook, a retail property expert from Brooks Chartered Surveyors, commented on the potential new tenants of the shop, saying:

“I think that Primark will hopefully pull some of that youth shopper spend back up and into Stall Street, benefitting the traditional retail core of the city centre.

“With SouthGate opening, Stall Street has weakened but with Primark opening that could help Stall Street cement itself back on to the retail landscape.”

New stores not only breathe life into high streets, they can also be responsible for generating a boost to the local economy in general, as other businesses in the area are often relied on to support the openings and day-to-day running of new shops. For example, Print companies specialising in POS printing in Bath could be called upon to produce high quality, eye-catching displays to help boost awareness of new offers and promotions.

While many of the area’s shoppers have set their heart on the opening of a new Primark store, the budget fashion giant is yet to comment on the speculation.
