Mr Inverdale, who presents sport at the BBC, has said that the club may be able to attract new members now that it has a block where people can get changed properly. He has praised the local council for its contribution to the project.
Bath and North East Somerset Council was involved in providing resources for the scheme, as was Sport England. However, members of the club played their part by raising £18,000 to realise their ambitions. If they want to advertise their facilities, they could opt to use flyer printing in Bath.
Tara Sexton, a junior rower for the group, has told the Bath Chronicle:
“This has been a story of a dream – a dream of flushing loos, of hot water and of people not crossing the road when they meet you after rowing. It's been two years of hard work and fund-raising, but we have done it.”
Men and women are now fortunate enough to have separate changing spaces. The showers and wash basins may make the local rowing experience more comfortable than it used to be.
During the grand opening, club chairperson Klaus Riekemann read out one goodwill message from Helen Glover. Both of these individuals were Olympic champions in the past.
