Funding could boost a science park for Bath and Bristol

Nearly £53 million of public spending might enable the progress of a Bath and Bristol science park.

The resources in question will be spent via a Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP). This body works with the private sector. It also facilitates cooperation between four local authorities in the region. If the scheme gathers momentum, then there may be extra demand for marketing services in Bath.

Stephen Robertson, who serves as the chairperson at the LEP, said:

“Through the previous Growth Deals we have already delivered projects including the completed Weston College Future Technology Centre and the University of England Robotics Centre, alongside many other exciting projects coming soon.”

Sajid Javid, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, suggested that the new funding is part of the localism agenda. Furthermore, he claimed the fresh investment would lead to job creation and higher growth.

One possible beneficiary of the policy is an institution involved in the invention of vehicles with low carbon emissions. The idea is that a global hub of excellence could be delivered. Various universities, including the University of Bath, are likely to participate in the initiative.

Nevertheless, the LEP has not yet selected which projects it will back. The final choice will be made by taking a range of factors into consideration. These should include the possible impact on infrastructure, educational attainment, employment and innovation.
