The Scary House Reading Challenge, which has been organised by Bath and North East Somerset Council, invites youngsters to collect specially printed scratch and sniff stickers as they read Books through the summer. These stickers are then stuck to bespoke creepy house Posters to keep a record of reading achievement. The Posters are easily created by reputable printing companies in Bath and by using the materials to encourage reading, the council hopes that more children will sign up for membership at their local libraries.
The Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, David Dixon, spoke about the reading challenge in a recent conversation with This Is Bath. He said:
"Last year almost 1,800 children signed up for the Summer Reading Challenge at Bath & North East Somerset Council's libraries. We hope that this year more children than ever will be inspired to join their local library and get the most from the great range of Books and other resources available."
The challenge is running until 14th September. More information about the challenge can be obtained from the local libraries taking part, or on the Council’s website.
A range of spooky activities are on offer to support the reading programme, such as creepy crawly sessions and mask-making workshops; all of which are designed to keep young people entertained through the school holidays.
