Bath Festivals receives grant for music initiative

The charity that takes charge of the Bath International Music Festival has recently obtained almost £30,000 to assist young people.

The project will aim to help youths who are affected by various conditions and sets of circumstances. Refugees and young adults with poor mental health will be among those who will hope to benefit from the Building Bridges scheme.

The idea is that the self-esteem and skills of vulnerable individuals will be raised via different sessions and workshops. They will be encouraged to perform, and one day flyer printing in Bath may be required to promote their musical activities.

Hazel Plowman, Learning and Participation Coordinator for Bath Festivals, has commented:

“We have already seen the benefit of this work with our pilot project and the chance to extend and deepen the impact of music-making opportunities will be incredibly positive for the young people and the community as a whole.”

The allocation of the money was determined by a charitable organisation called the National Foundation for Youth Music. This charity is headed by Matt Griffiths, who has voiced his satisfaction at working with the Bath-based group.

Some of the resources will be spent on funding a professional Music Leader to liaise with youth workers, and build relationships with the youths involved in the scheme. The individual selected will work in North East Somerset and Bath.
