Plans for the construction of a sizeable number of new homes at a site not far from Ashton-under-Lyne have now been approved by Tameside Council, but the final decision still rests with the Government.
The developer that put forward these plans is Casey Group, and the vote on them was taken by the planning committee for the council.
There were four votes in favour and two against, producing a result that aligned with the recommendation from the planning officer. Now, the Government must make the final ruling.
If it gives the go-ahead, a total of 162 homes will be built on the chosen site, which is partially Green Belt land. The site that has been selected for the scheme is in Stalybridge, just a couple of miles away from Ashton-under-Lyne.
The land adds up to 72 acres, some of which is classified as part of the Green Belt. The rest is a brownfield site. It has been lying vacant since Hartshead Power Station was knocked down at the end of the 1980s.
