The group of Tameside College Aspirations students are collaborating with Tameside Wildlife Intervention Team on this project. The aim is to ensure that birds are better able to flourish in the area, and it involves the young people building bird Boxes from wood to be placed on a piece of land that has been set aside.
The joinery and carpentry department at the college have been assisting them to make the Boxes and the students will now visit the chosen site to set them up, alongside cameras for keeping an eye on the birds that feed from them.
As well as adding these Boxes to the site, the young people are also supporting the team in removing litter, making dens for foxes and building up piles of logs, to make it wildlife-friendly. Speaking to FE News, the college’s Joanne Wilson said:
“The students really enjoyed spending time building the bird Boxes from start to finish. I’m really looking forward to them being put to good use and seeing what else our students can accomplish in the future with the group.”
