Pop-up theatre launched in Greater Manchester

A theatre based in Manchester is set to take a pop-up space for performances to a variety of locations in Greater Manchester, such as Ashton-under-Lyne.

The Royal Exchange Theatre is among the most celebrated performance venues in the city and it is launching this pop-up theatre, which is called The Den, with money provided by the Oglesby Charitable Trust. It is a portable auditorium that has room for 180 people and has been designed so that audiences in areas of Greater Manchester, like Ashton-under-Lyne and Stalybridge, can easily assemble and disassemble it when needed.

A spokesperson for the Royal Exchange told BBC News that the idea behind it was for the venue’s shows to come directly to people, but also to allow them to perform work they have created themselves. When people come up with ideas like this, they often use Promotional Products to further advertise what they are doing.

Kate Vokes and Michael Oglesby from the Trust said that it was an idea that they were proud to be able to help finance, before going on to add:

“The Den felt like a ground-breaking design – a truly unique theatre space that would respond to the needs of the residents using it.”

The first show to be staged using the pop-up theatre is to be called ‘A Tameside Story’.
