The building of a brand new school at a site near Ashton-under-Lyne has just been completed and it is set to relieve growing pressure on Tameside schools to meet the demand for places.
Laurus Ryecroft Secondary School will be the seventh academy school to be run by the Laurus Trust and is located in Droylsden, not far from Ashton. Once it opens its doors, it will have room for 1,350 secondary-age pupils living in the Tameside area, which will do a great deal to alleviate the pressure on the existing schools in the region.
The job of creating a specially tailored design for the school went to Pozzoni Architecture, a firm with a track record of high-quality bespoke school designs. It replaces an old school on the same site, but will be able to take almost three times the number of pupils thanks to innovative maximisation of space, which includes adjoining wings for the sports hall and sixth form and a three-story main building.
Stationery printers that are based in the local area can be useful for new and existing schools, supplying them with any printed classroom or administrative materials that they need.
The intention for Laurus Ryecroft is to make sure that Tameside does not fall short of available school places, with the population of the region growing at a very rapid pace.
