The complex would consist of 91 supported living flats for elderly people, alongside a beauty and hair salon, communal lounge area and a café, with the purpose of it being not just to provide housing but also to help address issues of isolation among older people in the area. The developer behind the project is Onward Homes and the chosen location is Hattersley Road East, in Tameside.
Onward Homes has indicated in its proposal that the flats would all come under the banner of affordable housing and would be a mix of 60 flats with one bedroom and 31 apartments with two bedrooms, with most also having wheelchair accessibility. Local printing services are sometimes used to provide Brochures showing off planned new housing projects.
The flats would be available to couples who are 55 or older and single elderly people. According to the Manchester Evening News, the proposal states:
“Integrated community facilities, such as the café, hair and beauty suites and communal lounge are designed to combat loneliness and isolation in residents by bringing a diverse local population into the building.”
