New centre opened by Paralympic medallist

A brand new family-oriented swim pool facility located close to Ashton-under-Lyne has had its official launch, with a former medallist at the Paralympic Games on hand to do the honours.

The site that used to be home to the Apethorn pub in Hyde had lain derelict since it closed, but now it has undergone a radical transformation to become the Aqua Nurture Centre – a venue offering massage and baby sensory classes.

Among the other amenities on offer at this facility, which is owned by Suzanne and Gary Horton, are a coffee bar and multi-function activities area. The couple run Puddle Ducks, a franchise business based within Greater Manchester that provides swim schooling for children and babies, and this centre will be part of that.

Those employed at the centre were thrilled to have medal winner Sarah Storey attend the grand opening, and local firms that had helped out with renovating the building, customers and clients were also there.

Having carried out the ribbon cutting ceremony, Sarah then opted to have a swim with her daughter in the pool and she told the Manchester Evening News that:

“The pool will be a fantastic place for families and will see many happy faces learning to swim and enjoy aquatic exercise. I wish them all the very best.”
