Massey visits college in Ashton-under-Lyne

A college located in Ashton-under-Lyne hit the Olympic standard earlier this month, when a medal winning British athlete paid it a visit to provide a talk to students doing sports courses.

Kelly Massey enjoyed a medal triumph during the Olympic Games held in Rio De Janeiro last summer, winning bronze as a member of the women’s 4x400m relay team. She made a visit to Tameside College so that she could give its sports students the benefit of her experience on what is needed to reach the top.

This visit was part of a wider tour she is undertaking, which includes colleges, secondary schools and primary schools, to support a Tameside School Sports Partnership campaign.

Speaking to FE News, the athlete stated that she was using the visits to inform students about what they need to do in terms of their lifestyles to be successful in their chosen sports, with Tameside College’s Luke Podmore adding:
“She is an inspiration to the students. It shows, that with dedication and commitment, most things are possible in sport. Her visit to the college will be remembered for a long time.”
