The cutting edge Advanced Technologies Centre within the college served as the venue for this competition, which is one of several run by GMCG that were created with the intention of showcasing global skills – including hair & beauty, construction, engineering and food.
They are held every year and enable Greater Manchester youngsters to test their skills in these areas against rival educational institutions and potentially win prestigious awards. Colleges from a number of areas, including Manchester, Trafford, Salford and Bolton took part in this year’s engineering competition.
The students from Tameside College secured several awards, including computer aided design level 3, the same category at level 2, welding level 2 and electronic engineering level 3. Speaking to a reporter from FE News, the college’s engineering curriculum leader, Peter Redfern, stated that:
“This is also a great opportunity to showcase Tameside College’s fantastic new Advanced Technologies Centre. It has been a pleasure hosting the competition and we hope everyone enjoyed the day.”
