Residents of Windsor will be able to celebrate this year’s St. Patrick’s Day in classic New Orleans style with a giant pub crawl.
The event is set to welcome as many as 3,600 revelers in what will be the largest celebration of its kind in the history of the city.
The festivities will take place in six bars and taverns on Sandwich Street in the city’s west end, which will be closed off between Detroit Street and Brock Street. Those wishing to join the party must obtain an event wristband and present their ID every time they enter one of the six participating bars.
Those taking part will be able to purchase drinks at any one of the establishments hosting the event, carry them out in to the closed off area of the street, and walk from bar to bar with them in hand. Extra security and police officers will be brought into the area for the day and it is hoped that the event will stay under control and a fun time had by all who take part.
The pub crawl is expected to attract quite a crowd and will be a boon for local businesses. Restaurants, convenience stores and companies which provide event security or banner and poster printing are expecting the event to lead to an increase their revenue for the month. It is hoped that if the pub crawl goes well, it will become an annual event for the city of Windsor.
