According to a recent report from a major online retailer, people in Windsor really love their pets and over the past year, they have spent the most shopping for them out of any Canadian city.
Amazon.ca released the results of its second annual Most Pampered Pets survey. The company reported that the city’s residents spend more on pet items than any other location in the country. They also topped the nation in money spent on items for dogs.
To retailers in the city, this is no surprise; the small shops that cater to pet owners have noted that there has been an increase in their sales over the past few years, particularly with luxury items for dogs. This matches the online retailer’s findings.
People are buying more and more items such as pet strollers, hand-baked dog treats, raw foods, clothing, and high-quality commercial food that they simply can’t find in the larger chain pet stores.
There has also been a corresponding rise in the number of pet services such as dog spas, resorts, pet sitters, and even dog therapists.
Windsor isn’t the only city that spends a lot on its pets; according to Amazon.ca, Saskatoon, Markham, Regina, and Richmond also took places in the top five cities.
