Windsor soup program seeks volunteers

A call has been put out seeking helping hands to serve the community for a program aimed at providing food to those in need in Windsor.

In November, the Street Angels program, which is an initiative set up by Feeding Windsor Essex, acquired its Soup Shack. This mobile unit brings a hot meal and a smile to those in need. It is currently parked at Throne of Grace Church, and volunteers are needed for each evening shift.

This initiative is meant to fill the service gap that may occur when traditional-style soup kitchens, food pantries and programs end for the day. The volunteers will be put into groups of three, with one helping clients make phone calls, one serving the meal and the last equipping each with warming materials.

Along with distributing food, supplies and good cheer, the helpers will provide the clients with literature about community supports that may help them. Brochure printing services on offer at area Print shops can prepare materials like this.

Feeding Windsor Essex has put out the call seeking community helpers for its Street Angels mobile soup kitchen program, and it is hoping there will be lots of helping hands raised. The Soup Shack is open seven days a week between the hours of 7pm and 9pm. More information is available on the Downtown Windsor website.
