The 9th annual Walkerville Art, Walk & Rock will take place in downtown Windsor on July 15 and 16. Stores, businesses and restaurants in the area will open their doors to the public. The colourful poster printing announcing the event has helped to get people excited.
The Walkerville Art, Walk & Rock is the brainchild of the Walkerville BIA. The Old Walkerville district will be closed off to traffic from Saturday to Sunday while pedestrians take to the streets. There will be live entertainment, artist’s booths, a mini food festival and lots more to do. A Walkerville passport is available, when you get the places you visit to stamp it you become eligible to win a prize. Last year that prize was a $500 certificate to use in Walkerville stores.
One of the companies in the area, and who participated last year is the Windsor Printmaker’s Forum. It is an organization that holds several workshops on printmaking. During the Walkerville Art Walk & Rock last year the forum encouraged members to display and sell their works in the gallery. There is every chance they will do this same this year.
Events such as this give much-needed attention to local companies who may not have great brand recognition from the general public. Walkerville is an area that features small stores and boutiques, unique restaurants and art galleries. Many don’t want to only shop in the big “box” stores, and we want to visit those small businesses that keep the downtown alive, making this a great event to raise awareness for smaller firms.
