Ontario government forcing utilities to highlight discount
Business card printing companies in Windsor, Ontario, may want to be aware of a new tactic by Ontario’s provincial government. The Liberal government is mandating local utilities to highlight a 10 percent discount on electricity on hydro bills for the period of the next five years.
The 10 percent discount is called the Ontario Clean Energy Benefit, and it will be distributed to provincial residents in the following few weeks. Households, farms and small businesses will all be getting the 10 percent discount benefit.
The purpose for the discount is to offset a rise in electricity costs that will be coming down the pipeline in also the next five years.
The local Ontario government is also going to be paying the cost of printing something known as buck slips, which relate to the program. Buck slips are inserts in the hydro bills that will apparently explain to residents what the program is all about. However, the explanation will actually be a repetition of the Liberal government’s talking points that already tout the benefits of the discount.
The local utilities are irritated at not only this, but also the fact that they are being cautioned by the government that they have no right to refuse the highlighting of the discount.
The premier of Ontario, whose brainchild is the 10 percent discount, is currently behind Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak in almost all public opinion polls.
Many businesses, including card printing companies in Windsor, may consider passing on some of these savings to their local customers.
