Youngsters tune up for Idol in Whitby

Whitby Idol, a singing competition for young talent is set to continue into its ninth season next month.

The sing-off of sorts is for young people for those aged between 12 and 18 and provides an opportunity for kids to exercise their vocal talents in front of judges and audiences, with the chance to win a recording session courtesy of The Music Scene, one of the competition’s sponsors.

Those wishing to participate must complete an application, which can be found on the Town of Whitby’s website. The Brooklin Community Centre and Library will also accept applications dropped off in person. The deadline to submit is February 27, 2013. All applicants must be a resident of Whitby and be available to sing at a variety of live events following the competition.

With the auditions looming and a schedule of events lined up in the Durham Region, it opens up a variety of opportunities for Whitby Print services. Local printing companies can be called upon for poster printing services to advertise the concerts and the appearance of the Whitby Idol winner.

The Music Scene on Dundas Street East will hold the first audition on March 7 at 6pm. The finale is scheduled for March 21 with judges, parents, and music fans on hand at the Centennial Building on Centre Street South.

Whitby Idol, based on the highly successful American Idol format on Fox Television, is a project of the Whitby Youth Council, a non-profit organization that represents schools and youth agencies which collaborate to help teens in the Durham Region.
