Working with dementia patients can require a special skillset, and a Whitby workshop will equip those who work in the healthcare field with additional techniques they can utilize.
The ‘Gentle Persuasive Approaches (GPA) in Dementia Care: Supporting Persons with Responsive Behaviours’ class, is taught all across the country. It is evidence-based and consists of four modules taught over a span of seven and a half hours.
The training will be hands on and includes multimedia reflective and interactive components. The goal is for each of the learners who participates to walk away with a new set of skills they can utilize immediately to aid them in providing the dementia patients they support with a high level of care. The class will be small in size, and while refreshments will be served, the attendees are asked to supply their own lunch.
The workshop will begin at 8:00 am, and as some of the training will be hands on, the participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. At the end of the session, each learner will receive a certificate of completion, and items like these can be designed by area Stationery printers.
Whitby’s offices of the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region will be hosting this educational opportunity, and it will be held on November 16. The offices are located at 1600 Champlain Avenue.
