Whitby welcomes 'Stuff a Bug for Santa' toy drive

A Volkswagen Beetle that has been parked at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby has a very special job to do this holiday season. It is helping to make things a bit brighter for children in need throughout the local area. The car is the centre point of this year's Stuff a Bug for Santa campaign.

The public is invited to come out and place their donation of a toy through its sunroof. At the end of the event, these will be collected as part of the Durham Regional Police’s Annual Toy Drive. They will be passed along to the Salvation Army, which will make sure that the toys make it to disadvantaged children throughout the community who could use some holiday cheer.

Before arriving at the sports centre, the car, which was provided by Owasco Volkswagen, was on hand at the Christmas Tree Lighting in Celebration Square, where the crowd could make a contribution. Festive Banners can be used to decorate the car and the building itself in order to spread the word about the event, and ask people to be generous to those less fortunate than themselves.

The beetle will remain in place ready and waiting for toys, with its sunroof open, at the sports centre until December 22nd. The public can stop by at 500 Victoria St. W. to make a donation.
