A new grocery store has opened its doors in Whitby.
Farm Boy, which is an Ottawa based firm, marked the grand opening of its new location 360 Tauton Road East. On hand for the event were the chain’s two mascots, LuLu the Cow and Farm Girl, as well as the CEO of the company. According to David Cooper, who is the store’s manager, he is amazed by the number of people who have come in to check it out for themselves.
The store, which covers an area of 28,000 square feet, includes a self-serve food bar that’s 50 feet long featuring many different cuisines such as stir fires, pizzas, gourmet sandwiches and even freshly made sushi. A printing company can provide items such as Menus, ordering Forms, signage for the sandwich bar and any other printed items that the store might need. This will allow them to be locally sources.
Along with the take out section, there are organic foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, artisanal cheese, sustainably harvested seafood and an array of products that carry the store’s own brand. They offer fresh samples so that people can try out the food items for themselves before they buy, and all the checkouts are staffed and none are automatic.
This is the 18th store in the chain to open so far, and to the company noted that this new location provides 150 jobs in the local community.
