An event has been planned that will celebrate Whitby’s historic past and bright future.
Whitby Heritage Day is the largest event of its kind in the city’s downtown, and seeks to make the public aware of the natural, scenic and architectural heritage of the area. There will be a variety of displays set up by vendors, as well as food, music, games and other activities. Banners can be printed for use during celebrations such as this.
Costumed reenactors will be recreating the community’s history, and the public will have the opportunity to browse through an antique mercantile and watch a chainsaw artist, wood carvers and a blacksmith at work practicing their craft.
A farmers’ market will be held, and for the kids, there will be face painting, balloons, games and a petting zoo. A horse and wagon will be giving rides through the downtown area, and there will be also be heritage displays and other demonstrations that play tribute to the history of the community.
To provide space for the festivities, portions of Bryon Street, Brock Street, Coulbourne Street and Elm Street will be closed off for the day.
Whitby Heritage Day will take place on October 1 and will run from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm in Downtown Whitby. There is no charge to attend the event.
