An upcoming Whitby activity will be offering a unique insight into what life is like for those living with dementia.
The Alzheimer Society of Durham Region has made arrangements to offer the Virtual Dementia Tour. It will offer a first-person view of how those with the illness experience the world, and each session is approximately one hour long. It may be useful to those working in the healthcare field, along with those with family members affected by dementia.
When those who sign up to participate arrive at the Whitby venue, they will be outfitted with gear that will affect their senses of hearing, vision and touch. Once they have completed their tour, they will be asked to share their thoughts on the experience. Small groups may be accommodated, but this needs to be arranged ahead of time by contacting the organizers directly.
Virtual technology can be used in a variety of ways to teach the public about a particular topic. Real world marketing materials that will spread the word about events such as this one will be available at local brochure printing companies.
The Virtual Dementia Tour will be accepting registrations for December 16th, and it is free to register. The experience will take place at 1600 Stellar Drive in Whitby, and there are various time slots available.
