Despite the negative connotations of the phrase, the hacking community has the power to do a lot of good in the world. A Whitby weekend will see hackers from all over the region put their skills to work in creating applications that can make a difference in healthcare, the environment, social justice, or another area.
The “hackathon” will bring together teams of developers along with marketers/designers and engineers to work together to develop apps that can make the world a little bit better. The challenge will be that they will only have 36 hours to do it.
Each individual group will decide which cause its members wish to support, and after this, they will work together to create their concept and then develop a prototype of the app. This will then be presented to the panel of judges on hand for the occasion.
Everyone who is at least 18 years of age and who is interested is invited to add their talents to the project. There is no fee to register, and both food and beverages will be supplied. The grand prize tram will walk away with $5,000.
While the ‘hackathon’ will support serious causes, it is intended to be a fun experience. A festive banner, T-Shirts and USB drives printed with the function’s Logo Design are all swag that a printer can supply for an event like this.
