Thanks to a recent donation, the Whitby Abilities Center will continue to be able to offer recreational and other healthy programs to residents who are living with a physical challenge.
The Coca Cola Corporation has made a donation of $100,000 to help fund the Thrive program. On March 27th, the facility’s management, users and other stakeholders came together to celebrate the donation, and to bid thanks for the generosity.
It will allow the program to be offered five days a week, which is up from the previous three. Right now, up to 35 people participate in the program, and according to Leo Plue, who is the executive director of the Abilities Center, it will now be able to accommodate more users.
Both young and old people who live with either a physical or cognitive challenge are able to engage in activities that are designed to help increase their independence and connection within the community. There are many who could benefit from this, and brochure printers can create publications that let them know how to take part.
Kim Scaldwell, who is the vice president of public affairs and communications for Coca Cola Canada, noted that the company was pleased and proud to be able to support this initiative. It is felt that it can make a positive impact on those living with disabilities, locally and beyond.
