The Ontario government recently revealed that a 5km stretch of the Whitby Waterfront Trail will be developed ahead of the 2015 PanAm and ParaPanAm games.
The improvements will cost $600,000 and the local authority will work in partnership with the Waterfront Regeneration Trust to complete the renovation.
The Trust is a registered charity, and has worked for the past 20 years to crate and improve the trail, which connects communities from Quebec all the way to Windsor. It brings together cities, towns and villages, both large and small, and winds through many kilometers of undeveloped land.
The multipurpose route gives people a chance to enjoy themselves in the great outdoors, and can be used by walkers, hikers, joggers, and cyclists alike. It also provides plenty of opportunities for bird watching and fishing, with many people taking advantage of the chance to get away from the fast pace of the city. The enhancements will connect Cranberry Marsh and Lynde Creek Marsh, which provide homes to waterfowl and other wildlife.
