A recent ranking by the Fraser Institute, a research organization, has placed a Whitby elementary school at a very high level.
Earl A. Fairman Public School came in ahead of all other institutions of its grade level in the Durham region, in the list released in early March.
The school’s score was 9.1 out of 10, which put it at the 63rd spot on the list of 3,037 Ontario schools evaluated. The numbers are based on factors such as the performance of the education quality and accountability office assessments of student testing for grades three and six. Also taken into consideration are the number of special needs students, and those who have a first language other than English.
According to the authors of the survey, its purpose is to show the strengths and weaknesses of the province’s educational system as a whole, and to encourage those schools that did not perform well to do better.
The centres that do well may wish to share this with the families of their students and other area stakeholders. A printing company can prepare Brochures and other items that do this, and provide more information about the ranking system as a whole.
