The Canadian Safety Council has prepared a learning opportunity for youth that will teach them what to do in situations when they are own, and it is being offered in the Whitby area.
React Right Safety Services’ Red Cross certified instructors will be facilitating the ‘At Home on my Own’ session. It is open to all ‘tweenagers’, and those who require a support person are welcome to have them attend along with them, free of charge.
The topics included on the agenda will help to make sure participants are safe, right from the end of the school day. This includes their walk or ride home, and they will also find out how they can make sure they look after the key to their house.
The group will also receive tips about what activities are appropriate if they are home alone, as well as fire and electrical safety. Basic first aid will also be covered, as will a discussion about what to do should something unexpected occur.
One of the topics that will be discussed is making healthy snacks, and participants will be given the opportunity to prepare and eat a light meal. An area printing services provider will be able to prepare manuals and certificates of completion that can be given to each person who takes part in an event like this.
This workshop will take place on March 2nd and will be hosted at 2950 Courtice Road in Courtice.
