Due to the success of last year’s Whitby Ribfest, the event will be returning to the city for three days later this month. The festival, which is a presentation of the Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise, is expected to draw around 40,000 visitors from across the region.
The ribs will be provided by eight groups that come from all over the United States and Canada. As well as supplying meaty treats for visitors to enjoy, the vendors will also be competing for several People's Choice Awards.
There will be much more than just the ribs at the festival, however. Music will be provided by artists such as Dog Tagz, George Olliver, Candace Grace, and The Colts. Fernandez the hypnotist will also be on hand to entertain the crowd.
Pre-registered visitors can compete in a rib eating contest for prizes; there is a limit of 10 participants, each of whom will have 12 minutes to eat as much as possible. The winner will receive a trophy and prize package worth $500.
Ribfest will also feature a beer garden, carnival rides and local vendors. Vendors can rent a 10x10 ft space for $500 for the run of the festival. Many of the vendors are likely to come from all over the area, including nearby Pickering. They will also probably be investing in services such as sign and banner printing to make their booths stand out from the crowd.
