The residents of Whitby were out in force recently to pledge their support at the annual Pull for Epilepsy fundraiser.
The event, which took place at the end of September, featured six teams all wearing purple T-Shirts which had been produced by a local printing company. Each group of 10 had to pull a 40,000 pound fire truck 100 feet along a paved road. It was difficult work, but they all managed to complete the challenge and collected over $4,800 by doing so.
The money will be donated to Laura’s Legacy Fund, and is set to be used to help people living with epilepsy to meet their treatment costs. It will also go towards covering the cost of traveling for medical help and to pay for children to attend special camps.
Although it was difficult to get started, the encouragement of the cheering crowd and the fact that the money raised will be going to a good cause made it a whole lot easier. The 20-tonne truck, Pumper Number 12, rolled smoothly along with lights flashing before coming to a stop once it crossed the finish line.
Many of those who came out to have fun while helping out have a friend or family member with epilepsy. Some were involved in the pull last year and were happy to come back and do it again.
Team Julian was the winner for this year, completing the pull in 16.44 seconds to take the crown.
