This year, it will be 10:03 am in Toronto on the day winter officially begins, with special celebrations set to take place in the city that afternoon.
A Winter Solstice Celebration is planned for one of the city’s parks. The first part of the activities will start indoors at High Park Nature Centre’s cottage, a little over one hour before sunset. During the first activity of the festivities, participants will partake in a workshop during which they will fashion lanterns to illuminate the site once the celebration moves outdoors. The Nature Centre will provide attendees with the necessary materials to make the lamps.
The second part of the festivity will take place outdoors around a fire to observe the sunset, which marks the longest night of the year. The solstice coincides with the Ursids, the winter meteor shower, and will peak during the night of December 21 to 22, adding to the celebration.
A yearly event, the 2025 Winter Solstice Celebration will accommodate a smaller number of people than usual, since High Park’s Nature Centre is under renovation. Flyer printing can help share details about community events like the Winter Solstice Celebration, ensuring residents stay informed about schedules, activities, and event changes.
The Winter Solstice Celebration starts at the High Park Nature Centre’s Cottage building located at 440 Parkside Drive, at 3:30 pm on Sunday, December 21.
