Helping hands sought for High Park project

A Toronto park that provides the public with an opportunity to connect with nature is seeking helping hands for an environmental stewardship project, and there are several dates scheduled.

High Park’s Weedy Wednesday activity provides a chance for local residents to get their hands dirty. The sessions will be held in the Park’s OURSpace and other areas of the venue, and there will be various horticultural tasks performed.

The participants in the session will be weeding, watering and providing other care to the Park’s black oak savanna, connecting with its grasses and flowers. Knee pads, gloves, seats and other tools will be supplied, and while the work will require bending, hiking and carrying equipment, the organizers may be able to provide accommodations so disabled community members can participate as well. In case of bad weather, the session may be cancelled.

Community members can play an important role in environmental stewardship, but they may not know how easy it can be to get involved. A brochure printing company can prepare mailers and materials to keep the public informed of initiatives like Weedy Wednesday.

High Park’s Weedy Wednesday initiative has dates set for August 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th, as well as September 3rd and 10th. For planning purposes, pre-registration is required, and anyone interested can register through its website.
